NICHOLASVILLE, KY. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team finished in third place at the ITA Indoor National Championships with a 4-0 win over Johns Hopkins in the third place match on Sunday at Top Seed Tennis.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 6-2 overall.
Pomona-Pitzer started out with the doubles point after getting wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Lauren Rha and
Nina Ye started the Sagehens out with a win at the No. 1 position, 6-3 while the No. 2 doubles team of
Nyakiriri Kanefu and
Angie Zhou edged out a 7-5 win to give the Sagehens the 1-0 lead heading into singles.
The Sagehens went on to win all finished singles matches against Johns Hopkins to earn the sweep. Rha doubled her wins for the day with a 6-4,6-2 win at the No. 3 singles while Kanefu followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot. The Sagehens ended the day with another win at the No. 6 singles as Ye won her match by the scores of 7-5, 6-1 to give the Sagehens the third place finish at ITA Indoors.
