No. 3 Sagehens Take Win Over No. 6 Emory

CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team came away with a narrow 5-4 victory over No. 6 Emory University on Monday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
 
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 7-2 overall this season.
 
Pomona-Pitzer took two of the three doubles to start the match. Nyakiriri Kanefu and Marissa Markey started the Sagehens off with an 8-5 win at the no. 2 doubles spot while Samantha Moore-Thomson and Alex Coleman came up just shy of earning a win in their match falling 8-6 at the No. 3 position.
 
The Sagehens came through at No. 1 doubles after Lauren Rha and Nina Ye were down 6-5 and came back to take an 8-7 (8-6) win to put the Sagehens up 2-1 heading into singles play.
 
Emory took the first singles win at No. 5 with Amelia Poor falling 1-6, 0-6 to even the score at 2-2. Rha doubled up on her wins for the day with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles while Zhou came through with a win at No. 2 singles by the scores of 6-4, 6-2.
 
Emory earned another win at No. 1 singles with Kanefu falling in three sets 6-1, 4-6, 3-6 but Markey clinched the match for the Sagehens at No. 4 singles in three sets as she defeated her opponent 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 to give the Sagehens the win over No. 6 Emory.
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will next host Sewanee on March 13th at 4:00 p.m.
