Sagehens Score 22 Goals In Road Win Over Caltech

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo came away with a 22-6 win over SCIAC opponent Caltech on Saturday morning at Braun Pool.
 
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 15-10 overall and 7-0 in SCIAC play.
 
The Sagehens were led by Paityn Richardson who netted a career-high seven goals in the win. Ayva Magna also had an impressive scoring performance with six goals while Lauren Smith, Natalie Sullivan Wu and Lauren Valentin has two and Ava Bennett, Kit Bennett, and Mia Amberger had one. Thea Pine got the start and the win in the cage with 11 saves and a steal.
 
A slow start for the Sagehens on the road as they stayed tied with Caltech through the first quarter of play. The Beavers took the lead with an early goal before the Sagehens responded with Smith, but Caltech responded to take a 2-1 lead with Richardson earning her first as the first quarter came to an end tied 2-2.
 
The Sagehens got the scoring out of their system in the second and third quarters with seven goals in the second and nine in the third. Magna, Smith, Amberger, and Richardson started the second with goals to make it 6-2, while Richardson and Sullivan Wu ended the first half with goals to make it 9-3 heading into halftime.
 
Another huge quarter for the Sagehens in the third to build their lead over the Beavers. Richardson and Ava Bennett started the third with goals before Caltech answered to make it 11-4. Richardson kept going for the Sagehens in the third with goals from Valentin, and three-straight from Magna to extend the lead to 18-4 heading into the fourth.
 
With the game well in hand, the Sagehens still managed to add four more goals from Kit Bennett, Richardson, Sullivan Wu, and Magna to stay perfect in SCIAC play this season.
