Sagehens Earn Sixth Straight Win With 13-7 Victory Over La Verne

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team improved their win streak to six games with their 13-7 win over La Verne on Wednesday night at Axelrood Pool.
 
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 14-10 overall and 6-0 in SCIAC play.
 
The Sagehens were led by Namlhun Jachung and Lauren Smith who each netted a hat-trick with three goals in the win. Mia Amberger had a multi-goal night as well with two while Abigai; Wiesenthal, Kaylee Stigar, Ayva Magna, Madison Lewis, and Brienz Lang had one. Zosia Amberger got the start and the win with three saves while Thea Pine played the second half with one save.
 
A low scoring game to start with just three total goals in the opening quarter. Stigar got the Sagehens on top with a goal before La Verne answered to tie the game at 1-1. Smith netted her first of the night with 2:03 left in the first as neither team scored in the final two minutes of the quarter with the Sagehens holding a 2-1 lead.
 
Jachung scored on the first possession of the second quarter while Jachung Lang and Magna added on to make it four-straight goals in the second quarter to take a 6-1 lead.  The Leopards cut into the lead with back-to-back goals to end the first half, but the Sagehens still held a 6-3 lead at halftime.
 
Pomona-Pitzer took over the game in the second and third quarters and after scoring four goals in the second, the Sagehens had their best scoring quarter of the night with five in the third. The two teams traded goals to open the third as Wiesenthal netted her first of the day to keep the lead at three up 7-4.  The Sagehens then went on another run of goals with four-straight from Lewis, Jachung, Smith and Amberger to take a commanding 11-4 lead.  The Leopards ended the third with a goal, but the Sagehens still led comfortably at 11-5.
 
Pomona-Pitzer put the game to bed early in the fourth with goals from Smith and Amberger to extend the lead to 13-5. La Verne ended the game with the final two goals, but the Sagehens were able to ride their large lead in the fourth for their 14th win of the season.
