CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team improved their win streak to six straight against Division III opponents with an 8-1 win over No. 9 Williams on Sunday morning at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 11-3 overall.
The Sagehen started the day by taking all three doubles against the Ephs for a 3-0 lead.
Angie Zhou and
Amelia Poor combined for an 8-6 win at the No. 3 position followed by the No. 1 team of
Lauren Rha and
Nina Ye who won by the score of 8-5. Pomona-Pitzer ended doubles with a battle at the No. 2 position as
Marissa Markey and
Nyakiriri Kanefu won a tiebreaker to sweep doubles 8-7 (7-3).
Pomona-Pitzer also dominated singles play losing just one watch against Williams. The Ephs got their only win at the No. 3 spot as Kanefu fell 6-4, 6-0.
Leticia Bazua Vazquez got the Sagehens out strong with a win at the No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-3 followed by Markey with the clinch at the No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-3.
The Sagehens went on to win the final three matches as well as Zhou took a 6-4, 6-3 victory, Poor at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 75 victory, and Rha with a three-set win at No. 2 singles, 4-6, 6-4, 10-2
