ORANGE, CA. – The No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team defeated SCIAC opponent Chapman 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon at the Anderson Tennis Center.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improved to 12-3 overall and 2-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens started the match by taking all three of the doubles matches against the Panthers. Pomona-Pitzer had wins of 8-2 at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches with the teams of
Angie Zhou and
Amelia Poor and
Alex Coleman and
Nina Ye picking up wins. The Sagehens finished doubles with an 8-4 win at No. 3 from the team of
Nyakiriri Kanefu and
Samantha Moore-Thomson to give Pomona-Pitzer a 3-0 lead.
The Panthers managed to steal two singles wins from the Sagehens at the No. 6 and No. 5 spots, but the Sagehens won at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4.
Leticia Bazua Vazquez won at No. 2 singles by the scores of 6-1, 6-3 while Zhou clinched the match for the Sagehens at the No. 1 spot, 6-1, 6-4. Coleman went on to win her match at No. 3 with back-to-back sets of 6-3 and
Marissa Markey came back with five straight games to win her singles matchup, 6-3, 6-4.
