Sagehens Split Road Doubleheader With Redlands

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Softball team split their rainy Saturday doubleheader with Redlands with a 6-3 loss and a 5-0 win at the Field of Dreams on Saturday afternoon.
 
Season Impact: with the split, the Sagehens move to 9-11 overall and 3-3 in SCIAC play this season.

The Sagehens were led by Devin Waddell who went 3-4 with a run scored while Kylie Liu, Bella Carreon, Nyla Springer, Victoria Hadley, and Lauren Ziment had one hit as well in the loss.
 
The Bulldogs got ahead of Pomona-Pitzer early with three runs in the first inning to take a quick lead. The Bulldogs added another run in the bottom of the third before the Sagehens loaded the bases and came away with three runs in the top of the fifth with RBIs from Liu, Carreon, and Groves to cut the lead down to one run at 4-3.
 
Despite getting back into striking distance, the Sagehens couldn't manufacture any more offense in game one while The Bulldogs added two more runs in the sixth as they fell to Redlands 6-3.

The Sagehens were led by Liu who went 3-4 in game two with a run scored. Carreon went 2-2 with an RBI and two runs scored while Waddell, Groves, Hadley, Emily Hurtado, and Ziment had a hit as well.  Waddell got the ball in game two and pitched a gem with a complete game shutout giving up three hits and had three strikeouts.
 
The Sagehens got ahead early as Brooke Bullis brought home a run to make it 1-0 in the top of the first. Pomona-Pitzer added two more runs in the third with an RBI single from Groves and Bullis again bringing in a run to extend the lead to 3-0. Waddell helped out her own cause in the sixth with an RBI single and Carreon capped off the win with a home run in the seventh to give the Sagehens a win to end their season series against Redlands.
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will next host Williams for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
