CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team ended their three-game series with Tufts University with a doubleheader sweep to take the series with a 10-0 win in game one and a 13-2 win in game two on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Season Impact: With the wins, the Sagehens improved to 16-5 overall.
Pomona-Pitzer 10, Tufts 0
The Sagehens were led by
William Kinney and
Nate Jakobs who each went 3-4 In the win.
Tanner DeGrazia went 2-4 with two runs scored and an RBI,
Isaac Kim went 1-3 with three RBI, and
Cooper Berry with a 1-3 game with two runs scored and two RBI in the win.
Hannoh Seo got the start in game one and picked up the win to improve to 4-0 on the year with six innings and only three hits given up and six strikeouts.
Wade Lawson came in to relieve Seo in the seventh and pitched a scoreless final inning.
The Sagehens got going early with two runs in their first at-bats. Kim doubled in the first run of the game followed by an RBI single by Jakobs to take a 2-0 lead after one.
Pomona-Pitzer went on to score in three consecutive innings in the fourth, fifth and sixth. Kim got a run across via a sacrifice fly in the fourth while Berry, Kim, and Jakobs all earned RBIs in the fifth to extend the lead to 6-0. The Sagehens then came back with four more runs in the bottom of the sixth as Jakobs hit his fifth home run of the season, followed by an RBI double by DeGrazia, an RBI single from Kinney and a sacrifice fly from Ng as the Sagehens evened the series with a win in game one of the doubleheader.
Pomona-Pitzer 13, Tufts 2
The Sagehens had four hitters with multi-hit performances. Kim led the pack with a 4-5 game and an incredible eight RBI and two runs scored. Ng went 3-5 with three runs scored and an RBI,
Greg Pierantoni went 3-5 with a run scored and an RBI, and Kinney went 2-4 with three runs scored and an RBI in the win.
Ethan Collins got the start and went four innings to give up two runs with seven strikeouts while
Eamonn Woods came in to get his second win of the season with three innings pitched and zero runs given up.
Another quick start for the Sagehens with a big first inning that plated five runs for Pomona-Pitzer by way of the long ball. Kim connected for his fourth home run of the season with a three-run shot and DeGrazia blasted his second homer of the year with a two-run shot to put the Sagehens up 5-0.
The Sagehens followed their five-run first with a four-run second inning after Ng came through with an RBI single and Kim again with a home run that plated three more to blow the game open at 9-0 heading into the third inning of play.
Tufts got two runs back with a home run of their own to make it 9-2, but the Sagehens answered back with an RBI single from Pierantoni and RBIs in the sixth from Kim and Kinney to extend the lead to 13-2 as the Sagehens run-ruled Tufts in game three of the series to take the series win over the Jumbos.
