Pomona-Pitzer Drops Game One To Tufts 5-4

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team started its three-game series against Tufts University with a tight 5-4 loss on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens had their four-game win streak snapped and fall to 14-5 overall.

The Sagehens were led by JC Ng who had the only two-hit performance for Pomona-Pitzer going 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored with his sixth home run of the season. Nate Jakobs also had a home run for the Sagehens while William Kinney also registered a hit in the loss.  Jake Hilton got the start and suffered his first loss of the season to drop to 5-1 this year with 6.2 innings pitched with five runs, two earned, and four strikeouts.

Tufts got out to a good start as they tagged Hilton for three runs in the first two innings to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

Pomona-Pitzer answered in the bottom of the second with two runs off one swing as Jakobs banked a ball off the foul pole for a two-run shot to cut the lead down to 3-2.

The Sagehens came back in their next at-bats with some more power and took the lead at 4-3 after Ng's two-run shot to take a one-run lead through three innings of play.

The Jumbos came back to reclaim the lead in the top of the fifth after an error plated a run and then a sacrifice fly to put Tufts back up one at 5-4.

The Sagehens had chances late in the game to get the tying run across, but Tufts bullpen and defense kept the Sagehens scoreless for the final six innings as Pomona-Pitzer dropped game one of its three-game series with Tufts.

Up Next: The series continues with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 17th beginning at 11:00 a.m.
