CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team started its three-game series against Tufts University with a tight 5-4 loss on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens had their four-game win streak snapped and fall to 14-5 overall.
The Sagehens were led by
JC Ng who had the only two-hit performance for Pomona-Pitzer going 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored with his sixth home run of the season.
Nate Jakobs also had a home run for the Sagehens while
William Kinney also registered a hit in the loss.
Jake Hilton got the start and suffered his first loss of the season to drop to 5-1 this year with 6.2 innings pitched with five runs, two earned, and four strikeouts.
Tufts got out to a good start as they tagged Hilton for three runs in the first two innings to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
Pomona-Pitzer answered in the bottom of the second with two runs off one swing as Jakobs banked a ball off the foul pole for a two-run shot to cut the lead down to 3-2.
The Sagehens came back in their next at-bats with some more power and took the lead at 4-3 after Ng's two-run shot to take a one-run lead through three innings of play.
The Jumbos came back to reclaim the lead in the top of the fifth after an error plated a run and then a sacrifice fly to put Tufts back up one at 5-4.
The Sagehens had chances late in the game to get the tying run across, but Tufts bullpen and defense kept the Sagehens scoreless for the final six innings as Pomona-Pitzer dropped game one of its three-game series with Tufts.
