Sagehens Write Off Poets 20-3

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo came away with a 20-3 win over SCIAC opponent Whittier on Wednesday night at Haldeman Pool.
 
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improved to 9-10 overall and 3-0 in SCIAC play.
 
The Sagehens were led by Ayva Magna and Paityn Richardson who each netted a hat-trick with three goals in the win. Bella McGowan, Lulu Gaither, and Ava Bennett had two goals each while Abigail Wiesenthal, Kaylee Stigar, Brienz Lang, Gabby Lewis, Namlhun Jachung , Mia Amberger, Sarah Archer, and Lisbon Zeigler had one. Zosia Amberger got the start and the win for the Sagehens with two saves while Thea Pine came in for the majority of the game and had 15 saves and two steals.
 
The Sagehens scored early and often against the Poets with six goals in both the first and second quarters while the Sagehen defense held the Poets to just one. Wiesenthal got the Sagehens on the board first followed by two from Gaither and then goals from Gabby Lewis, Bennett, and Zeigler to put the Sagehens up 6-0 through one quarter.
 
Pomona-Pitzer started the second with goals from Stigar, Lang, Jachung, Magna, and Bennett to make it an 11-0 run to start the game before the Poets got their first goal of the night to make it 11-1. Richardson responded with a goal with 16 seconds left to put the Sagehens up 12-1 heading into halftime.
 
The offense cooled off a bit in the second half but still managed to score four goals in the third and fourth quarters. Magna opened the scoring in the second half followed by Whittier's second goal of the night to make it 13-2. Archer, Amberger, and McGowan answered the Whittier goal to extend the lead to 16-2 heading into the fourth.
 
The Sagehens managed to add four more goals to their total from McGowan and Richardson, and Magna completed their hat-tricks in the fourth as the Sagehens steamrolled the Poets at home 20-3.
