CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team swept No. 14 Sewanee 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improved to 8-2 overall.
Pomona-Pitzer started with a clean sweep of the doubles competition winning all three matches against the Tigers. The No. 1 doubles team of
Nina Ye and
Lauren Rha took down the reigning doubles National Championship team of Katherine Petty and Brooke Despriet 8-2 while
Marissa Markey and
Nyakiriri Kanefu at No. 2 doubles and
Angie Zhou and
Alex Coleman at No. 3 doubles went on to both win their matches 8-4 to give the Sagehens a 3-0 lead heading into singles.
Angie Zhou got the Sagehens a quick win at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win while
Amelia Poor clinched the match for the Sagehens with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.
Pomona-Pitzer went on to win their remaining singles matches against Sewanee for the sweep. Kanefu doubled her wins on the day with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles while
Lauren Rha did the same at No. 3 singles with a pair of 6-3 wins.
Leticia Bazua Vazquez made her way into the singles lineup at the No. 4 position where she won 6-4, 6-4 and Coleman ended the day at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win as the Sagehens took a convincing win over the No. 14 ranked Tigers.
