Lewis Nets Five as Sagehens Improve to 4-0

CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse team improved to 4-0 and 1-0 in SCIAC play with a 16-4 victory over the Chapman Panthers on Wednesday night. Fiona Lewis led the Sagehens attack with five goals while Taylor Glanville and Grace Warner both recorded hat tricks. Hannah Gough had a stellar all-around game for the Sagehens, recording one goal with five ground balls and four caused turnovers while Caroline Donegan also recorded five ground balls. Pomona-Pitzer will face off with the CMS Athenas in a road Sixth Street Rivalry this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. for their next contest.

How It Happened
The Sagehens won the opening draw control and never looked back, scoring the first goal of the contest just 54 seconds into the action off the stick of Grace Warner. Taylor Glanville doubled the Sagehens lead to 2-0 22 seconds later before Fiona Lewis, Chloe Denhart, and Hannah Gough all scored to give Pomona-Pitzer a 6-0 lead to end the first quarter.

The Sagehens saw another goal off the stick of Lewis to start the second quarter, but the Panthers managed to score two quick goals just 23 seconds apart to cut the lead to 7-2. Pomona-Pitzer answered with four unanswered goals with Lewis, Glanville, Warner, and Grace Tighe all striking the back of the net to make it 11-2. The Panthers countered once again to make it 11-3 but a goal from Shoshi Henderson and from Grace Warner put the Sagehens up 13-3 heading into halftime. Pomona-Pitzer slowed things down in the second half with Denhart and Lewis scoring the only two goals of the third quarter to make it 15-3 heading into the fourth. Lewis put the finishing touches on a five goal night with the team's 16th goal of the game in the beginning of the fourth quarter. Chapman was able to score once more in the contest but Pomona-Pitzer earned the 16-4 victory.
