CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse team improved to 3-0 with a 13-4 victory over the Rhodes College Lynx.
Shoshi Henderson led the team in points with two goals and four assists while
Fiona Lewis and
Hannah Gough both earning hat tricks on Sunday morning. The Sagehens were a perfect 21-21 on clears while picking up 25 ground balls to Rhodes' 22. Pomona-Pitzer outshot the Lynx 31-20 in the contest with
Ruby Loesch recording six saves on the day.
Caroline Welch,
Carly Sullivan, and
Rhyan Goozh all recorded two caused turnovers with
Taylor Glanville earning three draw controls. The Sagehens will be back in action on Wednesday night when they host the Chapman Panthers at 7:00 p.m.
How It Happened
The Lynx and Sagehens played a tight first quarter of action with Pomona-Pitzer winning the opening draw control and later striking first with a goal from
Shoshi Henderson with 11:28 left in the first.
Sydney Landauer doubled the Sagehens score to 2-0 just 12 seconds later before
Fiona Lewis scored with 9:45 left in the first quarter to make it 3-0. Rhodes regrouped and cleaned up their defense to hold the Sagehens scoreless for the remainder of the first quarter will striking their first goal of the game off a free position shot with 1:55 left in the quarter.
The Sagehens scored early in the second quarter with
Shoshi Henderson finding
Fiona Lewis who netted her second goal of the game to make it 4-1 just 34 seconds into the second quarter.
Ella Bradley and Hannah both scored to increase the Sagehens lead but the Lynx responded with a goal of their own to cut the gap to 6-2 with 10:05 left in the half. Pomona-Pitzer struck twice more in the second quarter with
River Buechner and
Shoshi Henderson both finding the back of the net to make it 8-2 heading into halftime.
Out of the halftime break, Rhodes earned the draw control but a caused turnover from
Chloe Boudreau put the ball back in the hands of the Sagehens. The Sagehens were able to capitalize on the possession with
Hannah Gough scoring on a free position shot to make it 9-2 with 13:12 on the clock in the third. Rhodes took the next draw control but a caused turnover from
Gwynn Sullivan led to a
Taylor Glanville goal on the other end as the Sagehens increased their lead to 10-2 with 11:44 left in the third quarter.
Fiona Lewis picked up the hat trick with 6:19 on the clock, capitalizing on a man up situation to increase the lead to 11-2. Rhodes scored the last goal of the third quarter with 1:16 left on the clock, cutting the Sagehens lead to 11-3.
Katherine Lin scored her first goal of the 2024 season with 9:59 left in the fourth quarter to extend the Sagehens lead to 12-3. The Lynx answered nearly two minutes later but the Sagehens scored the final goal of the season off the stick of
Hannah Gough, giving her a hat trick to cap off the Sagehens 13-4 victory over Rhodes.
