Kinney Lifts Sagehens Past Lutes With 8th Inning RBI Single

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team capped off their weekend with a 5-3 win over non-conference opponent Pacific Lutheran on Sunday morning at Alumni Field.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 8-3 overall.

The Sagehens were led by JC Ng who had the only two-hit performance of the day with a run scored.  Isaac Kim belted his second home run of the year with two RBIs while William Kinney had the go-ahead two-RBI single in the bottom of the eighth for the Sagehens in the win.

Ethan Collins got the start for the Sagehens and despite a quality outing did not pick up the win after six innings, four hits, no earned runs, and 10 strikeouts. Eamonn Woods came in relief and picked up the win with three innings of scoreless and hitless baseball with three strikeouts.

The Sagehens got ahead early against the Lutes as Andrew An scored on a passed ball to gift the first run of the game for Pomona-Pitzer.  The Lutes responded in the top of the third with an RBI single before Kim's towering shot to left put the Sagehens up 3-1 after the third.

Some shaking defense in the top of the sixth allowed Pacific Lutheran to tie the game with two runs off of four errors in the inning to make it even after six innings of play.

Pomona-Pitzer got to the Lutes bullpen and Kinney came through with a two-out two-RBI single through the left side of the infield to put the Sagehens on top 5-3 and finish the weekend strong with a win over Pacific Lutheran.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next start SCIAC play as they host CMS for the opening game of the Sixth Street Rivalry Series on Friday, March 1st at 2:00 p.m.
