Sagehens Split Day Two Of Barbara Kalbus With Loss To ASU And Win Over Biola

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Water Polo team split their games during day two of the Barbara Kalbus Tournament with a 14-10 loss to Arizona State and a 10-4 win over Biola on Saturday afternoon at Anteater Aquatics Center.

: With the split, the Sagehens move to 4-5 overall.

The Sagehens were led by Namlhun Jachung who earned a hat-trick in the loss with three goals. Abigail Wiesenthal also had a multi-goal game with two while Kaylee Stigar, Brienz Lang, Nikki Rubottom, Lauren Smith, and Lulu Gaither had one each. 
 
ASU netted the first goal of the game before the Sagehens came back with back-to-back goals from Wiesenthaol and Jachung to take a 2-1 lead early in the first. The Sun Devils ended the first with a 3-0 run to take back the lead at 4-2 heading into the second quarter. 
 
Jachung scored her second of the game to open the second quarter to cut the lead back down to one goal at 4-3, but the Sun Devils responded with two straight goals to go up 6-3.  The Sagehens came back with two of their own to bring back down to 6-5 as Lang and Rubottom found the back of the net, but ASU matched the Sagehens for goals in the third with three each as Pomona-Pitzer went into halftime down 7-5. 
 
Arizona State continued to add to their lead in the third as they outscored the Saghehens 3-2. Jachung completed her hat-trick and Smith scored her only goal of the game in the quarter, but the Sun Devils headed into the fourth with a 10-7 lead. 
 
The Sagehens managed to score three goals in the fourth as Stigar, Gaither, and Wiesenthal netted goals, but Arizona State managed to get four past the Sagehens to take the win on day two of Barbara Kalbus. 
 
Pomona-Pitzer 10, Biola 4 
 
The Sagehens were led by Lang who netted a hat-trick with three goals. Smith and Gaither netted two while Kaylee Stigar, Ayva Magna, and Madison Lewis had one.
 
Pomona-Pitzer got out to a great start against Biola with the defense holding the Eagles scoreless through the first quarter.  The Sagehns got ahead with goals from Lang and Smith in the first and then Lewis and Lang started the second with goals to take a 4-0 lead before the Eagles scored their first goal with 3:18 left in the first half.
 
Pomona-Pitzer ended the first half with a goal from Magna to take a 5-1 lead into halftime and opened the third with goals from Gaither and Stigar to take a commanding 7-1 lead in the third quarter.
 
Biola matched the Sagehens with three goals in the third, but the Sagehens also shut out Biola in the fourth while adding two more goals from Gaither and Lang as the Sagehens earned their first win of Barbara Kalbus with a win over Biola.

The Sagehens will continue tournament play against Indiana on Sunday, February 25th at 10:15 a.m.
