CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team dropped game one against the Hope International Royals 10-5 on Saturday afternoon. The Sagehens recorded seven hits in game one with
Natalie Murguia leading the team with two hits while
Kylie Liu had one hit with three RBIs. The Sagehens fell to the Royals 3-1 in game two with six hits in the game and
Lauren Ziment bringing in the lone run with an RBI sacrifice fly. Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on March 1 when they host the Whittier Poets at 2:00 p.m. to begin SCIAC play.
Pomona-Pitzer 5, Hope International 10
The Royals struck first early, scoring off an RBI single up the middle to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Hope International added two more runs in the third and later increased their lead to 10-0 in the fourth.
The Sagehens were able to close the gap in the fifth inning with a two-RBI double to left center to cut the lead to 10-2.
Emily Hurtado was hit by a pitch in the fifth that also brought in a run to make it 10-3. The Sagehens comeback attempt continued in the sixth inning as
Kylie Liu brought in a run with an RBI fly out to center, making it 10-4. An RBI single from
Natalie Murguia down the left field line brought in another Sagehen run to make it 10-5. The Sagehens comeback attempt fell short as they couldn't close the gap in the seventh inning.
Pomona-Pitzer 1, Hope International 3
The Sagehens struck first in game two with
Lauren Ziment earning an RBI sacrifice fly to bring in
Devin Waddell to make it 1-0. Both teams were scoreless in the third inning, but the Royals found the equalizer in the fourth with an RBI walk to tie the game at 1-1.
Hope International got the bats going in the fifth inning, using an RBI double and RBI single to take a 3-1 lead. Pomona-Pitzer had an opportunity to counter in the bottom of the seventh after Natlie Murguia hit a one out single up the middle followed by
Bella Carreon reaching first after getting hit by a pitch. The late rally attempt was just short after back to back outs ended the game 3-1 in favor of Hope International.
