Sagehens Complete Sweep Over Linfield With Doubleheader Win

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team took the home opener series over Linfield with an 8-7 win in game one and a 7-4 win in game two for the sweep on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
 
Season Impact: With the sweep, the Sagehens improved to 5-1 overall.

The Sagehens were led by Jimmy Legg who went 2-6 at the plate with five RBIs including a grand slam in the win. JC Ng had a 3-4 game with a run scored and two walks while Kade Morihara also had two hits with two runs scored.
 
Hannoh Seo got the start and the win for the Sagehens after six innings pitched with two runs surrendered and six strikeouts. Eddie Rosemont and Eric Prough appeared in relief roles while Wade Lawson came in for the save.
 
It was all Pomona-Pitzer early on as the Sagehens struck first in the bottom of the first off of an error and then a huge third innings plated five more after a solo shot by Jack Gold and a grand slam by Legg put the Sagehens up 6-0.
 
Linfield strung together some hits in the top of the fourth to cut into the lead at 6-2, but the Sagehens came back with one run in the fourth with an RBI from Nate Jakobs and another RBI from Legg in the sixth to extend the lead to 8-2.
 
After the Sagehens built a comfortable lead, the Wildcats had a huge seventh inning to cut the lead down to one after five runs off four hits and two errors made it 8-7.
 
Despite a scary seventh inning for the Sagehen bullpen, Lawson came on in the eighth and finished the game off for the two innings save in game one.

The Sagehens were led by Jack Gold who went 2-4 with four RBI and a run scored in the win. Greg Pierantoni, Jimmy Legg, and Nate Jakobs all had two hits as well while JC Ng, Kade Morihara, and Ben Morgan earned one hit in the final game of the series.
 
Harry Deliyannis got the start but only pitched two innings after being relieved by William Wallace in the third who picked up the win with four innings pitched. Jack Wiessinger came on in the seventgh with two innings of relief work while Eric Prough picked up the save in the ninth.
 
Both teams earned a run in the second as the Sagehens fell behind after a sacrifice fly put Linfield up 1-0.  The Sagehens immediately answered in the bottom half of the inning with a double by Jakobs to make it 1-1.
 
Linfield went ahead in the fourth with an RBI ground out with the bases loaded, but the Sagehens escaped the inning just giving up the one run as they trailed 2-1.  
 
The Wildcats extended their lead in the top of the fifth with an RBI single to make it 3-1, but Gold came back with another home run on the day with a two-run bomb to right field to tie the game again at 3-3.
 
Pomona-Pitzer took the lead in the bottom of the sixth after RBI singles from Pierantoni and Gold to take a 6-3 lead before Linfield answered with one run in the top of the seventh to make it 6-4.
 
With the Sagehens hanging on to a slight lead late in the game, Pierantoni added another RBI for insurance with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 7-4 to make the save attempt a little easier for Prough.
 
Pomona-Pitzer's closer appeared for the third time in two days and shut down Linfield in the ninth as the Sagehens completed the sweep against the Wildcats in their home opener series.
