CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team had their perfect home opener weekend spoiled with a 10-2 loss to non-conference opponent Lewis & Clark on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 5-2 overall.
The Sagehen bats cooled off after a hot weekend of hitting with just four total hits in the Sunday loss.
Cooper Berry went 2-4 with a home run while
Greg Pierantoni and
Jack Gold each earned a hit as well.
Ethan Collins got the start and tagged with the loss after four innings with three earned runs and six strikeouts.
Jake Albro,
Luke Taylor,
Weston Janavs,
Ben Cohen, and
Stephen Kwak all came in for relief appearances as well.
Lewis & Clark were gifted a few runs to start the game after back-to-back walks with the bases loaded and an RBI ground out put the Pios up 3-0 in the third.
Lewis & Clark loaded the bases again in the sixth and got another run off of a double play while the Sagehens answered in the bottom of the sixth with Berry's first career home run to cut into the lead at 4-1.
Lewis & Clark responded with a solo shot of their own to push the lead to 5-1 but the Sagehens stayed in the game with an RBI double from Gold to make it 5-2 heading into the eighth.
Unfortunately, the bullpen couldn't hold for the Sagehens as the Pios went on to score three runs in the eighth and two in the ninth as the Sagehens suffered their first loss at home for the 2024 season.
