Pomona-Pitzer Drops Road Contest To Occidental

LOS ANGELES, CA. --  The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team fell to SCIAC opponent Occidental 75-53 on Wednesday night at Rush Gymnasium.
 
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 5-19 overall and 2-13 in SCIAC play.
 
The Sagehens were led by Jadyn Lee with 18 points and six rebounds. Emily Lee added 15 points to the total while Abigail Homan had seven.  A tough night shooting for the Sagehens on the road with 39.3% from the field and hitting on just 2-17 from three for 11.8%. Occidental had the edge in the paint 58-34 and outrebounded the Sagehens 43-27.
 
The Sagehens and Tigers alternated the lead to start as the Sagehens took a 7-6 lead early In the first quarter. The Tigers came back and reclaimed the lead at 14-11 and then ended the first with a 6-2 run to take a 20-13 lead.
 
Occidental went up 10 to start the second quarter as the Sagehens tried to keep the lead to single digits throughout the early part of the quarter. Pomona-Pitzer got back to within five at 30-25 with 5:08 left in the half, but Oxy kept their lead and went into halftime with a 36-29 lead.
 
The Tigers did a lot of their damage in the third quarter after they came out of halftime and had their highest-scoring quarter of the game outscoring Pomona-Pitzer 22-12.  Pomona-Pitzer only trailed by five points at 38-33 within the first minute, but the Tigers went on a big 15-4 run that broke the game open at 53-37 and ended the third quarter up 58-41.
 
Pomona-Pitzer got the lead back down to 12 points at 65-53 with 4:44 to play in the fourth, but the big third quarter by the Tigers allowed them to pull far enough away from the Sagehens to prevent and comeback in the fourth.
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will end their season on the road as they face Cal Lutheran on Saturday, February 17th at 4:00 p.m.
