Three Sagehens Reach 20+ Points As Sagehens Fall To Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team finished their 2024 season with a 78-76 loss against Cal Lutheran on Saturday afternoon at Gilbert Arena.
 
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens end the season at 5-20 overall and 2-14 in SCIAC play.
 
The Sagehens had three players with 20+ points and leading the way was Jadyn Lee who had 27 points and seven rebounds in the loss. Abigail Homan had a career-high 22 points to end her 2024 season to go along with eight rebounds while Emily Lee added 20 points to the Sagehens' total.
 
The Sagehens outshot Cal Lutheran from the floor hitting 44.4% from the field to Cal Lutheran's 43.5%. Pomona-Pitzer shot just under average from three hitting on 8-28 for 28.6% while Cal Lutheran did their damage down low with 34 points in the paint and 40 rebounds. The Sagehens also did a good job forcing turnovers with the Regals committing 17 turnovers in the game and the Sagehens earning 13 points off of turnovers.
 
Cal Lutheran jumped ahead early with the first four points of the game, but the Sagehens stayed with the Regals early trailing 8-7 with 6:48 to play in the first. Cal Lutheran sparked a 13-5 run to extend the lead to 21-12 and Emily Lee hit a three to cut the deficit down to 21-15 heading into the second quarter.
 
The Regals went up over 10 early in the second quarter and took a 31-17 lead with 6:20 left until halftime. Pomona-Pitzer had a nice run in the second quarter outscoring Cal Lutheran 14-5 to cut the lead down to 33-29 with three minutes to play until halftime, but Cal Lutheran immediately hit a 13-3 run to end the half and took a 46-32 lead into the locker room.
 
Pomona-Pitzer had a huge third quarter to get back into the game outscoring Cal Lutheran 23-14.  The Sagehens chipped away at the lead early in the third quarter to get the lead down to 54-44 with six minutes in the third and then closed out the third outscoring Cal Lutheran 11-6 to trail just five at 60-55 heading into the fourth.
 
The Regals hit a three to open the fourth, but the Sagehens kept shaving points off the lead with a 10-6 run to trail by four at 69-65 after a layup by Homan with just under four minutes to play.
 
Jadyn Lee came back for the Sagehens with a 7-2 run of her own and hit a three out of a timeout to cut the lead down to just one point at 73-72 with one minute to play.
 
The Regals came back down the floor and converted a bizarre four-point play that put Cal Lutheran up 77-72 to make the comeback for Pomona-Pitzer unlikely.  The Sagehens ended up scoring at the end to cut the lead down to 78-76, but time expired before they could foul as Cal Lutheran survived another close game with Pomona-Pitzer.
