CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team ended their home regular season in style setting a new program record for three-pointers made in a game with 22 in the Sagehens' 109-74 win over Occidental on Wednesday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 18-5 overall and 11-3 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens had an offensive night to remember with six players in double digits.
Joe Cookson led the way with 21 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds while
Ty Bergman reached the 20-point mark as well.
Peyton Mullarkey added 16 points,
Hayden Moser with 15, and
Pete Boyle and
Jasper Hedin with 11 each in the win.
The Sagehens had an incredible night shooting the basketball hitting on 40-69 of their shots from the floor for 58% and a record 22-39 from three for a 56.4% clip. The Sagehens also outrebounded Occidental 36-23 and had just six turnovers as well on offense. The 109 points made are the most scored by the Sagehens all season long and the most since January 28
th of last season when they scored 115 in the home win against Whittier.
The Sagehens and Tigers started out shooting well on both sides of the court as Oxy tied the Sagehens 10-10 three minutes into the first half. The Sagehens started to make space with a 25-17 lead with 12:28 left in the first half and already had 31 points at the midway point of the first half. The Tigers tried to get back into the game cutting the lead down to 37-31 with 7:03 left in the first half, but the Sagehens ended the half with an 18-10 run with 11 points from Hedin to take a 55-38 lead into halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer went up by 20 straight out of halftime and maintained their large lead for the rest of the game. After shooting 50% from three in the first half at 12-24, the Sagehens actually improved on their shooting from beyond the arc in the second half hitting 10-15 from three for 66.67%.
With the Sagehens shooting at a historic pace, Occidental did not stand a chance in the Sagehens' last regular season home game of the year as the Sagehens capped off their senior night in a big way with a 35-point win over the Tigers.
