Sagehens Take Road/Home Doubleheader With Wins over Cal State LA And Westcliff

CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team came away with a pair of wins as they traveled to Cal State LA for a 5-0 win and hosted Westcliff later in the day for a 4-1 win on Saturday afternoon.
 
Season Impact: With the two wins, the Sagehens improve to 2-1 on the year.

The Sagehens started off with the sole point coming from doubles playing with the higher division format. The Sagehens ended up sweeping the doubles competition as the No. 1 team of Angie Zhou and Nyakiririr Kanefu and the No. 3 team of Amelia Poor and Marissa Markey did not lose a single game with 6-0 victories.  The No. 2 team of Alex Coleman and Samantha Moore-Thomson also came away with a win in a 6-4 victory to give the Sagehens a point heading into singles.
 
Pomona-Pitzer took singles in a similar fashion as Coleman doubled her wins against Cal State LA with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 5 position followed by a win by Zhou at the No. 1 spot, 6-1, 6-2. Bazua Vazquez only dropped one game in her 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 3 spot while Moore-Thomson clinched at the No. 6 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win.

The Sagehens started down a point after doubles with Westcliff taking two of the three matches for the double point. Rha and Ye fell at the No. 1 doubles 6-4 while Zhou and Kanefu earned a win for the Sagehens at the No. 2 spot 6-1. Coleman and Moore-Thomson ended up dropping their match at the No. 3 position 6-3 as Westcliff took a 1-0 lead into singles.
 
Luckily the Sagehens didn't need the doubles point as they went on to sweep the singles matches against the Warriors. Zhou and Ye left their matches unfinished while the Sagehens picked up wins at 2. 3. 4. And 6.
 
Rha earned a victory at the No. 2 position 6-2, 6-2, with Bazua Vazquez and Market following up with 6-4, 6- wins at the No. 3 and 4 positions.  Pomona-Pitzer ended the day with Poor earning a win at the No. 6 spot 6-1, 6-2 as the Sagehens doubled their wins on the day with the road/home doubleheader.
