Sagehens Atop SCIAC Standings After Win Over Redlands

CLAREMONT, CA. — Pomona-Pitzer men's water polo outlasted Redlands 12-10 Saturday afternoon at home on senior day, overtaking the Bulldogs for the top spot in the SCIAC standings.
 
Season Impact: The win improves the Sagehens' record to 18-10 overall, including 9-1 in SCIAC play.
 
Pomona-Pitzer got out to a quick start, scoring the game's first two goals by way of Nico Perna and Alden Pfau. Indigo Lee and Darragh Flanders each found the back of the net in the second period as the Sagehens took a 4-2 lead into halftime. 
 
Conrad Hugar and Chase Barman scored early in the third period to extend Pomona-Pitzer's lead to four, 6-2. Goals from Barman and Hugar kept the Bulldogs at bay, 8-4. Redlands added a score as the Sagehens took an 8-5 lead into the final period. 
 
An exciting fourth quarter saw a combined nine goals, as the Bulldogs used a 2-1 run to cut Pomona-Pitzer's lead to two, 9-7. Perna and Lee then scored to up the Sagehens' lead to four, 11-7. 
 
Redlands, though, scored the next three to cut its deficit to one, 11-10, with 30 seconds. Pomona-Pitzer managed to run out the clock, as Zach Whitfield scored with one second left to seal the Sagehens' 12-10 win. 
 
Up Next: The Sagehens travel to take on Whittier College on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 7:00 p.m. PT.
