Sagehens' Win Streak Snapped With Loss At Whittier

WHITTIER, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team had its seven-game win streak snapped with a 13-12 loss to Whittier College on Wednesday night at Slade Aquatics Center.
 
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 18-11 overall and 9-2 in SCIAC play.
 
The Sagehens were led by the tiro of Indigo Lee, Max Distaso, and Logan Colman who each had two goals in the loss while Darragh Flanders, Chase Barman, Conrad Hugar, Zach Whitfield, Miles Chiang, and Andrew Plaschke had one.
 
Whittier struck first to take an early lead with the Sagehens and Poets alternating goals in the first quarter as Colman and Plaschke kept the Sagehens level at 2-2.
 
Pomona-Pitzer took its first lead of the night as Barman, Lee and Colman netted goals early in the second quarter to give the Sagehens their largest lead of the night at 5-3.  The Poets had a big run late in the first half after they went into halftime with four of the final five goals to take back the lead at 7-6 heading into halftime.
 
After giving up the lead late in the first half, the Sagehens bounced back and started the third quarter with goals from Chiang, Distaso and Hugar to take a 9-7 lead.  The Poets came back with another big run that stretched from the end of the third to the beginning of the fourth with five-straight goals to take a 12-9 lead with 4:19 left in the fourth.
 
The Sagehens battled back and cut it back down to one goal after Distaso scored to make it 13-12, but Pomona-Pitzer ran out of time and fell to Whittier on the road.
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will end the regular season at Caltech on Saturday, November 16th at 11:00 a.m.
