CLAREMONT, CA. — Pomona-Pitzer men's water polo got out to a 3-0 lead and never trailed, defeating Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 12-10 Wednesday night at Haldeman Pool.Â
Season Impact: The win improves the Sagehens' record to 17-10 overall, including 8-1 in SCIAC play.Â

Four different Sagehens scored two goals on the night in
Chase Barman,
Indigo Lee,
Nico Perna and
Conrad Hugar.
Zach Whitfield dished out a team-high three assists while
Liam Byrne tallied 10 saves in goal for his eighth game of the season with double-digits saves.

Pomona-Pitzer got out to a quick start, with Hugar scoring the game's first two goals and fueling a 3-0 Sagehens run. Barman set up
Alden Pfau for a score as Pomona-Pitzer took a 4-1 lead at the end of the first period.Â

CMS came back to cut its deficit to one, 5-4, before a
Max Distaso goal gave the Sagehens some breathing room at 6-4. Barman scored off an assist from
Miles Chiang just before the half as Pomona-Pitzer took a 7-4 lead into the break.Â

Teams traded scores in the third period, with Lee and Barman finding the back of the cage to give the Sagehens a 9-5 advantage. Chiang added a score off a Distaso assist to put Pomona-Pitzer up four, 10-6, heading into the final period.Â

The Stags made it a three-point game, 11-8, with 2:07 to go in the final period. But  Perna scored off another Distaso assist to up the Sagehens' lead back to four, 12-8. CMS scored twice more before the buzzer but it wasn't enough, as Pomona-Pitzer came away with the 12-10 win.Â
