Sagehens Fend Off Clark University, 63-57

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Jadyn Lee posted 19 points and 13 rebounds as Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball defeated Clark University 63-57 Saturday evening at Voelkel Gymnasium. 
 
Season Impact: The win propels the Sagehens to 5-2 on the season, including 3-1 at home. 
 
Lee reached 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including 3-of-4 from three. Her 13 rebounds tied her season-high as she recorded her third double-double of the season, also adding five assists and three steals. Emily Lee added 15 points, four rebounds and a career-high four steals for Pomona-Pitzer while Abigail Homan had nine points and three rebounds. 
 
As a team, the Sagehens out-shot the Cougars 38.3% to 29.2% from the floor, including 39.1% from deep. 
 
Teams remained close throughout much of the first period, but back-to-back three-pointers from Homan and Emily Lee put the Sagehens up 14-9. The Cougars scored 11 unanswered before another basket from Homan made it 21-16 for Clark at the end of the first quarter. 
 
Jadyn Lee scored a driving layup and Charlize Andaya hit a jumper outside the paint to bring Pomona-Pitzer within three, 27-24. Jadyn Lee added another triple just before the end of the half as the Cougars led 30-27 at the break. 
 
Homan and Jadyn Lee traded baskets early in the third period to give the Sagehens the lead, 33-32. Pomona-Pitzer later scored seven unanswered, as Shea Joko nailed a three and gave the Sagehens a 43-37 lead. Jadyn Lee and Homan traded buckets again just before the end of the third, as Pomona-Pitzer led 49-39 heading into the fourth. 
 
Andaya scored a lay-in off an Emily Lee assist before Andaya found Jadyn Lee for a trey, giving the Sagehens a 59-49 lead with 4:47 to go. The Cougars, though, scored seven straight to cut their deficit to three, 59-56, with 1:35 remaining. 
 
Pomona-Pitzer strung together a pair of defensive stops, before Emily Lee knocked down a pair of free throws to give the Sagehens a comfortable 61-56 lead with 17 seconds left. Charlotte Patel knocked down two more from the line as Pomona-Pitzer held on for the 63-57 win. 
 
Up Next: The Sagehens open SCIAC play next Wednesday, Dec. 4, against Cal Lutheran in Voelkel Gymnasium. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. PT.
