CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team came away with a 71-57 win over George Fox on Saturday afternoon at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 3-2 overall.
The Sagehens were led by the duo of
Jadyn Lee and
Emily Lee who both went over 20 points as Jadyn led with 23 and Emily with 20.
Abigail Homan was in double digits as well with 10 points and added 7 rebounds while
Kayla Malek added eight points off the bench.
The Bruins and Sagehens had a tight first quarter with George Fox holding an 11-7 lead midway through the first. The Sagehens took the lead back late in the first back a last second layup by the Bruins put George Fox up 16-15 heading into the second.
The Sagehens started down 23-20 but then the offense got going and went on an 11-0 run to take a 31-23 lead with 3:04 to play in the first half. The Bruins chipped away at the lead by
Sara Chicco hit a big three for the Sagehens to end the first half to go up 34-28 heading into halftime.
George Fox came out of halftime and took advantage of a slow start to the third by Pomona-Pitzer and took a 35-34 lead in the first three minutes of the second half. The Sagehen stopped the bleeding and stayed with the Bruins for the remainder of the third and went into the fourth tied at 46-46.
George Fox held the lead early in the fourth up 53-52, but the Sagehens controlled the game from that point on after they went up 57-54 after a layup by Malek and then a huge three by
Emily Lee to take a 60-53 lead with 1:56 to play. The Bruins tried to make a comeback, but the Sagehens' defense stayed solid and then were able to close the game out at the free throw line for the win.
