CLAREMONT, CA. — Pomona-Pitzer women's volleyball fell to La Verne in three sets (23-25, 17-25, 18-25) Saturday afternoon at Voelkel Gymnasium.Â

Chloe Gill led Pomona-Pitzer with a team-high eight kills, adding three digs and a block.
Paige Mountanos posted six kills and five digs while
Corrina Benson had 16 digs for the Sagehens. As a team, Pomona-Pitzer hit at a .109 clip to the Leopards' .276 hitting percentage.

The Leopards jumped out to a 9-5 lead in set one before
Kellan Hayes tallied a kill and
Charlotte Sekerka posted a block for the Sagehens. La Verne maintained its lead throughout, until a
Jenny Jenks solo stuff sealed a 4-0 Pomona-Pitzer run and tied things at 19-19. The Sagehens extended their lead to two, 23-21 after a Mountanos kill. But the Leopards finished strong, scoring the game's final four points to take set one, 25-23.Â

It was the Sagehens that got out to a quick start in the second set, as back-to-back kills from Gill and Hayes put Pomona-Pitzer up 5-3. A
Samantha Grabb kill later made it 9-7 Sagehens. Teams then traded points, as another Gill kill put Pomona-Pitzer up 14-13. The Leopards, though, scored five straight to go up 18-13, going on to take set two, 25-17.Â

Set three remained close early, as Sekerka posted a block with Gill then recording a service ace to give the Sagehens a 14-13 advantage. Teams traded points, with a Hayes kill bringing Pomona-Pitzer within one, 18-17. But La Verne went on to win set three, 25-18, sealing the 3-0 match win.
