CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team finished off their last regular season away match with a 3-0 win over Redlands on Wednesday night at Currier Gym.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens I proved to 15-10 overall and 10-5 in SCIAC play.
Paige Mountanos led the Sagehens with 12 kills while
Jenny Jenks had 29 assists and also led the team in digs with 11.
Kellan Hayes led the defense with 5 blocks.
Three very good sets for the Sagehens in a road contest against the Bulldogs where they held their opponents under 20 points in two of the three sets and averaged a .288 hitting percentage throughout the game.
Pomona-Pitzer got out to a 8-4 lead to start the first set while Redlands hung around and trailed only one at 13-12 midway through the first. The Sagehens were the first team to 20 leading 20-17 and a late rally allowed them to take the first set 25-18 after earning the last five points of the set.
After dropping their first set at home, Redlands held the lead in the early stages of the second set up 14-13 midway through. The Sagehens then came back with five-straight points and 12 of the final 15 points of the second set to take a 2-0 lead with a 25-16 victory.
Pomona-Pitzer took the early lead in the third set up 8-4 but Redlands came back and took over the lead at 16-13 to try to avoid the sweep at home. Pomona-Pitzer did a good job battling back with four-straight points to swing momentum and took the lead at 20-18. Redlands battled back trailed one late at 23-22. But Pomona-Pitzer ended the match with points from
Tene Ariyo and an attack error to complete the sweep to firm their position in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.
