Sagehens Secure Sixth Straight Regular Season SCIAC Title

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Sagehens defeated rival CMS with a score of 1-0 to secure first place in the SCIAC on Saturday night.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens end their regular season with a record of 14-1-2 overall and 10-1-1 in SCIAC play.

Hannah Hong had the only goal of the game, Amanda Khu had an assist, and Patricia DePalma had three saves.

In a must win game to clinch first place in the SCIAC, the Sagehens came out strong. The breakthrough came in the 13th minute when Hannah Hong scored the game's opening goal off of an assist by Amanda Khu. Hong's goal gave the Sagehens momentum early on, allowing them to control the tempo of the game. Patricia DePalma was a wall for the team in goal, making a crucial save to preserve the lead. 

In the second half, the Sagehens maintained strong defensively while continuing to create scoring opportunities. Hong attempted a shot that was blocked by the CMS defense in the 55th minute and there were a pair of attempts from Vivian Rojas Collins, who took two shots around the 80th minute. One was saved by the CMS keeper, while the other went just wide. DePalma made another save in the 75th minute to secure the shut out. With the 1-0 win, the Sagehens became the 2024 SCIAC Regular Season Champions for the sixth year in a row.

Up Next: The Sagehens will host the SCIAC tournament against the winner of the 4th and 5th placed teams. This game will take place on November 6th and the time is TBD.
