CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball team fell to Smith College 60-43 on Saturday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens move to 1-2 overall.
Jadyn Lee led the Sagehens in points, rebounds, blocks, and assists with 12 points, six rebounds, two blocks, and seven assists.
Charlize Andaya led the Sagehens with two steals.
The first quarter between Sagehens and the Pioneers was a back-and-forth battle with strong defensive play.
Jadyn Lee nailed a triple near the end of the first period as the Pioneers led 15-12 heading into the second period. Smith College, though, used a 13-6 run in the second quarter to lead 28-18 at the half.
The Sagehens fought their way back into the game early in the third period, with
Jadyn Lee and Andaya trading baskets to bring Pomona-Pitzer within eight, 32-24.
Elsa Cottrell hit a jumper and
Shea Joko drained a trey as the Sagehens trailed 46-35 at the end of the third quarter.
The Pioneers scored a trio of baskets early in the fourth before a Cottrell layup made it 53-39.
Jadyn Lee got a driving layup to fall, but Smith College went on to seal the 60-43 win.
