REDLANDS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team opened up SCIAC play with a 74-66 win over Redlands on Wednesday night at Currier Gym.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improved to 2-2 on the year and open SCIAC play 1-0.
The Sagehens were led by
Emily Lee who had 22 points shooting 6-12 from three for the game.
Abigail Homan tallied 16 points while
Charlotte Patel and
Jadyn Lee had 12 each with Lee earning a double-double with 10 rebounds.
The Sagehens did a great job shooting the ball against the Bulldogs hitting at a 49.1% clip from the field and 47.6% from three.
It was the Bulldogs who jumped out to an early lead at home with 6-0 start right off the whistle. Redlands kept the lead until the Sagehens hit a three from Homan to take a 14-13 lead and Homan with another basketball at the end of the quarter to put the Sagehens up 16-15.
The Sagehens continued to build their lead in the second and took a 24-18 lead in the early stages of the second quarter. Redlands battled back and sparked a run to go up 29-27 but the Sagehens ended with a 9-3 run to take a 36-32 lead heading into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, the Sagehens put up their best offensive quarter of the night with 23 points. Pomona-Pitzer went up double digits at 47-37 with 5:13 left in the third and took a 59-52 lead heading into the fourth.
Pomona-Pitzer built its largest lead of the night with a 14-point lead at 70-56 after a jumper by Patel with 7:23 left in the fourth. Redlands chipped away at the lead and got the deficit down to just 70-66, but the Sagehens held off the Bulldogs on the road and came away with a win on their SCIAC opener.
