ORANGE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team fell in overtime to non-conference opponent Linfield 71-70 on Friday night at the Hutton Sports Center.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 1-1 overall.
The Sagehens were led by
Jadyn Lee who had a team-high 22 points and seven rebounds.
Abigail Homan had 14 points and seven rebounds while
Emily Lee tallied 13 points and
Sara Chicco off the bench with 11.
The Sagehens bench contributed 15 points to their total but the Wildcats held the advantage in the paint. Both teams shot just north of 40% from the field with the Sagehens getting the edge from beyond the arc hitting on 5-18 for 27.8%.
Pomona-Pitzer did well early in the game and jumped out to a 15-11 lead. The Wildcats made a late run and tied the game at 15-15 heading into the second. Pomona-Pitzer stayed ahead early up 22-1, but Linfield made another run and took over the lead at 28-24 with 4:37 left in the first half. Despite giving up the lead, the Sagehens kept it close and only trailed by one at 33-32 heading into halftime.
The Wildcats came out of halftime and took back a big lead with a 47-39 advantage midway through the third. The Sagehens did a good job battling back early in the fourth and tied the game at 53-53. The two teams stayed close throughout the fourth and Linfield led late 64-62 with nine seconds left. Jaydn Lee came up big for the Sagehens with a last second jumper to force overtime at 64-64.
Linfield jumped ahead in overtime and forced the Sagehens to play from behind and try to make another late basket. The Wildcats led 71-70 with the Sagehens given an opportunity to hit a last second win, but the shot was no good as the Sagehens fell for the first time this season.
