PASADENA, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team finished the regular season with an 18-7 win over Caltech on Saturday afternoon.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improved to 19-11 overall and 10-2 in SCIAC play to earn a share of the SCIAC Regular Season Championship with Redlands.
The Sagehens were led by
Darragh Flanders and
Kai Baker who each netted a hat-trick with three goals in the win.
Dillon Joyce, Alden Pau, and
Chris Childs had multi-goal games with two each while
Patrick Hughes,
Julian Montoya,
Stavros Zografos,
Jack Ryan,
Tommy Ryan, and
Logan Colman had one.
The Sagehens took the lead with an early goal by Colman before Caltech struck for their only goal of the first to tie the game at 1-1. The Sagehens ended the first with goals from Flanders, Hughes, and Baker, and Pfau to take a 6-1 lead heading into the second.
Pomona-Pitzer shut off the Beavers in the second quarter while adding three more goals from Flanders, Pfau and Zografos to take a 9-1 advantage into halftime.
Caltech had its best quarter in the third after they matched the Sagehens goal for goal but Ryan, Baker and Childs kept the Sagehens up eight with a 13-5 lead heading into the fourth.
Pomona-Pitzer capped off its regular season with a six goal fourth quarter after Childs, Joyce, Ryan, and Montoya found the back of the net to give the Sagehens a big win over Caltech.
