Box Score CLAREMONT, Calif. — After coming back from a three-goal deficit to take the lead late, No. 2 seed Pomona-Pitzer men's water polo fell 14-13 to No. 3 seed Chapman in the SCIAC Tournament semifinals Thursday night.
Logan Colman,
Conrad Hugar and
Indigo Lee led the Sagehens with two goals apiece. Lee and
Chase Barman dished out a team-high two assists each while SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Year
Liam Byrne made nine saves in goal. Pomona-Pitzer led 13-11 with 5:19 to go but couldn't quite hold on, with the Panthers closing the game on a 3-0 run to win.
The Sagehens found themselves facing a three-goal deficit, 7-4, midway through the second period. Hugar scored on a power play and Barman found
Miles Chiang for a score as Pomona-Pitzer trailed 8-6 at the half.
The Sagehens started the third period strong, with Chiang,
Nico Perna and Barman adding goals to put Pomona-Pitzer up one, 9-8.
Zach Whitfield scored with a one-man advantage and Lee found the back of the net as the Sagehens led 11-10 heading into the fourth.
Colman scored a pair of goals midway through the fourth period, giving Pomona-Pitzer a 13-11 advantage with 5:19 to go. But Chapman finished the game strong, scoring three goals to close out the match and secure the 14-13 win.
