THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team came away with a big 3-1 win over SCIAC opponent Cal Lutheran on Friday night at Gilbert Arena.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improved to 14-9 overall and 9-4 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by
Chloe Gill who led the team with 14 kills while
Kellan Hayes and
Paige Mountanos had 11.
Jenny Jenks led the team with 41 assists while
Corrina Benson had 17 digs. Hayes led the team with five blocks on the defensive end and now holds the Pomona-Pitzer All-Time records for Block Assists, Solo Blocks and Total Blocks.
The Sagehens got out to a great start in what was a must-win game for their hunt to stay towards the top of the SCIAC standings. Pomona-Pitzer had an opening set where they hit .333 and started with a 25-15 first-set victory.
Cal Lutheran battled back in the second set with a 7-2 lead before the Sagehens came back to tie the set at 11-11. The two teams battled for the remainder of the set while the Regals came out with a 25-23 win.
Pomona-Pitzer got back on track in the third set with a 10-7 lead, but the Regals made a good run and took over the lead at 13-12. The Sagehens quickly reclaimed the lead at 14-13, and despite Cal Lutheran keeping it close until the end, the Sagehens held on for a 25-23 win to go up 2-1.
The Regals tried to tie the game at 2-2 and force a fifth set with a 17-15 lead, but the Sagehens came back with five-straight points to take a 20-17 lead. Cal Lutheran came back to make it 22-20 but kills by
Samantha Grabb late sealed the win and gave the Sagehens a big 3-1 win on the road.
