CLAREMONT, CA. — Pomona-Pitzer men's water polo fell 22-14 to No. 4 UC Irvine before taking down Mount St. Mary's 18-13 Saturday at home on the final day of the Gary Troyer Tournament.Â

The Anteaters defeated Pomona-Pitzer in the Sagehens' first game of the day despite a team-high four goals from
Logan Colman and a pair each from
Zach Whitfield and
Connor Sullivan.
Liam Byrne added nine saves and a steal in goal.Â

Whitfield put the Sagehens on the board in the first period off an assist from Sullivan. Sullivan added a score of his own but the Anteaters held an 8-3 lead after the opening period. Sullivan, Colman and
Chase Barman added goals to the scoresheet, as the Sagehens trailed 12-6 at the break.Â

Conrad Hugar score made it 13-8 for UCI in the third.
Max Distaso and
Andrew Plaschke found the back of the net for back-to-back scores, making it 15-10 for the Anteaters. Colman, Whitfield, Hughes and
Indigo Lee added goals but UCI came away with the 22-14 win.Â

Sagehens 18, Mount St. Mary's 13

Pomona-Pitzer came out of the gate hot, with Whitfield putting the Sagehens up 4-1 in the first. A score from Colman made it 7-3 Sagehens at the end of the first. Mount St. Mary's mounted a comeback in the second period, opening with a 4-0 run. But Barman, Perna and Whitfield scored to give the Sagehens a four-goal lead, 12-8.Â

Colman scored back-to-back goals before Plaschke added two of his own to extend Pomona-Pitzer's lead, 18-11. Mount St. Mary's added two more but it was the Sagehens that secured the 18-13 win.Â
