CLAREMONT, CA. — Pomona-Pitzer volleyball fell to Chapman in four sets (28-30, 25-18, 15-25, 22-25) Tuesday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.Â

Season Impact: The loss moves the Sagehens to 13-9 on the season, including 8-4 in SCIAC play.Â

Charlotte Sekerka paced Pomona-Pitzer with a team-high 11 kills on a .524 clip to go with three blocks, while
Paige Mountanos added 10 kills and nine digs.
Chloe Gill posted nine kills and seven digs.Â

Kellan Hayes notched five blocks on the night, tying herself as the program's all-time leader in block assists (254). She is also the all-time program leader in solo blocks (65) and total blocks (319).

Chapman came out on top in set one after a long, back-and-forth game that saw nine different ties and five lead changes. Sekerka tallied six kills in the frame as Pomona-Pitzer came back to tie the set at 24-24 late. Pomona-Pitzer then brought the game to set point at 26-25 following a Sekerka kill and Chapman attack error. But the Panthers prevailed, scoring the game's final two points to take the set, 30-28.

In set two the Sagehens came out strong, jumping to a 13-6 advantage behind back-to-back kills from Sekerka. A Mountanos kill later fueled a 3-0 Pomona-Pitzer run to put the Sagehens up nine, 19-10.
Savanna Cespedes and Hayes posted kills late to lead Pomona-Pitzer to the 25-18 set-two win.Â

The Panthers seized control early in set three, taking a 12-4 lead. Back-to-back kills from
Ella Mesard and Gill made it a four-point game, 17-13. But the Panthers finished the frame strong, going on to take set three, 25-15, and a 2-1 match lead.Â

Teams traded points early in set four until a 9-1 Panther run gave Chapman a 15-10 advantage. Pomona-Pitzer responded with five unanswered, as a
Corrina Benson ace tied things up at 15-15. The Panthers then scored six straight to go up 21-15, as they eventually came away with the 25-22 set-four win to seal the match win, 3-1.
