WHITTIER, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team fell in three sets to Whittier on Saturday evening at Dave Jacobs Court.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 13-7 overall and 8-3 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by
Samantha Grabb who had nine kills on the day while
Paige Mountanos had five and
Chloe Gill with three. Grabb also led the team with three blocks while
Savanna Cespedes had 11 assists and
Corrina Benson with 10 digs.
The Sagehens hit .138 in the three sets with Whittier hitting at a .337 clip with one set over 400 at .409.
The Sagehens started the first set right with the Poets trailing by one point at 6-5. Whittier then sparked a 6-2 run to open up a 2-7 lead and then after a Sagehen timeout, extended their lead to 18-11. Pomona-Pitzer made a late run and made it a three-point set at 22-19, but Whittier regrouped and took set one 25-19.
Whittier jumped out to a big lead to start the second set up 10-4 and grew that lead to 21-13. Whittier went on to close out the second set with a 25-14 win and took a 2-0 lead over the Sagehens.
Pomona-Pitzer earned the first three points of the third set, but the Poets came back to take the lead at 9-8 and after an 11-3 run, took an 18-11 lead over the Sagehens. Whittier was then able to close out the third set and snap the Sagehens three-game SCIAC win streak.
