Sagehens Triumph Over Whittier College, 3-2

CLAREMONT, CA. — Pomona-Pitzer men's soccer came back to defeat Whittier College, 3-2, Saturday afternoon at home. 
 
Season Impact: The win improves the Sagehens' record to 4-8-3 overall, including 2-7-2 in SCIAC play. 
 
Pomona-Pitzer out-shot the Poets 18-12 in the match, including 11 shots on goal to Whittier's six. Keyon Namdar, Alex Greenstein and Kieran Veloria each scored for the Sagehens with Adam Leikin and Aidan MacLennan recording an assist each. Jasper Broad tallied four saves in goal, including a crucial penalty kick stop in the 14th minute. 
 
The Poets got on the board first six minutes after their penalty kick miss, with Owen Nance scoring to put Whittier up 1-0. But the Saghens answered quickly, as Veloria found the back of the net in the 27th minute off a Leikin assist. Pomona-Pitzer had two promising chances that ended in saves as the match remained tied, 1-1, at the break. 
 
Five minutes into the second half, Whittier again took the lead with a goal from Kevin Bravo. The Sagehens maintained a strong attack before breaking through in the 68th minute, as MacLennan found Greenstein for a score to even things up, 2-2. 
 
Namdar scored the go-ahead goal in the 77th minute with a classy chip shot finish, putting the Sagehens up 3-2. Broad saved a would-be tying goal in the 86th minute as Pomona-Pitzer held on for the 3-2 victory. 
 
Up Next: The Sagehens close out the season next Saturday, Nov. 2, at home when they host Occidental at 11:00 a.m. PT.
