THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team fell to SCIAC opponent Cal Lutheran 3-2 on Wednesday night at William Roland Stadium.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 3-8-3 overall and 1-7-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by
Niclas Ulrich and
Alex Greenstein who each netted a goal for the Sagehens in the loss while
Keyon Namdar earned an assist.
A lot of shots between the two teams as Cal Lutheran fired off 19 shots with nine on target and the Sagehens with 11 shots with six on goal.
A big first half from Cal Lutheran on offense as they outshot the Sagehens 8-3 in the first 45 minutes of the match. The two teams went scoreless through the majority of the first half, but Cal Lutheran found the opening goal in the 37
th minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
It was the Kingsmen again to strike first in the second half after they chipped a ball over the top and chipped the keeper in the 59
th minute to extend the lead to 2-0.
Cal Lutheran made it 3-0 at one point with another goal in the 75
th minute before the Sagehens' offense got going and netted their first goal in the 80
th minute as Ulrich connected off of a corner from Namdar to cut the lead down to 3-1.
The Sagehens made it a one goal game late in the second half after Greenstein beat the keeper in the 89
th minute to force Cal Lutheran to play nervous for the final minute of the match. Unfortunately, the Sagehens ran out of time before finding an equalizer and fell to the Kingsmen on the road.
