Sagehens Atop SCIAC Standings After 1-0 Win Over Cal Lutheran

CLAREMONT, CA. – In a crucial matchup between the second-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens and top-seeded Cal Lutheran Regals, the Sagehens clinched a 1-0 victory Wednesday afternoon.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 12-1-2 overall and 8-1-1 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens attacked early and took a quick lead over the Regals thanks to Hannah Hong who scored in the 7th minute, assisted by Eliana Prosnitz. The Sagehen's defense stayed consistent the whole half to maintain the lead, with goalkeeper Patricia DePalma making multiple crucial saves. The Sagehens controlled the pace and maintained possession 57% of the first half while the Regals maintained possession 43% of the first half. 

Both teams came out with more energy and physicality in the second half but neither could generate many scoring opportunities. In the 87th minute, Cal Lutheran came close to scoring with a shot off of the crossbar but the Sagehens held on strong and came out with the 1-0 win.
