Sagehens Cruise to 4-0 Win Over La Verne

CLAREMONT, CA. — Pomona-Pitzer women's soccer cruised to a convincing 4-0 win over La Verne Saturday afternoon at home. 
 
Season Impact: The win improves the Sagehens' record to 11-1-2 overall, including 7-1-1 in SCIAC play. 
 
Hannah Hong led Pomona-Pitzer by scoring a brace, her second of the season, on five shot attempts. Maxine Davey and Ayehu Clements also added goals off the bench while Anjali Nuggehalli and Kendrick Dahlin each recorded an assist on the day. As a team, the Sagehens notched 27 shots to the Leopards' one, including 14 on goal.
 
Pomona-Pitzer dominated possession early, posting four shots with one on goal over the first 15 minutes. The Sagehens offense broke through in the 22nd minute, when Hong found the bottom-left corner of the net to put Pomona-Pitzer up 1-0. 
 
The Sagehens continued to dominate possession throughout the first half, tallying 13 shots in the period while preventing La Verne from getting off a single shot. Davey found the back of the net following a Sagehens throw in to give Pomona-Pitzer a 2-0 lead in the 39th minute. 
 
Nuggehalli found Hong for her second score of the match in the 58th minute, who powered in a shot low past the Leopards goalkeeper. Clements blasted a shot high past La Verne's goalkeeper on a breakaway in the 67th minute, giving Pomona-Pitzer a 4-0 advantage as the Sagehens went on to win their fifth straight. 
 
Up Next: The Sagehens remain home to host Cal Lutheran on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 4:00 p.m. PT in a battle between the SCIAC's top two teams.
