Sagehens Hand Regals First SCIAC Loss With 2-1 Road Victory

THOUSAND OAKS, CA. –  The No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer squared off with fellow SCIAC giant Cal Lutheran and came away with a 2-1 road victory on Wednesday night at William Rolland Stadium.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 10-1-2 overall and 6-1-1 in conference play.

The Sagehens had two different goal scorers in the win as Vivian Rojas Collins scored the first goal of the day for the Sagehens while Ella Adams scored as well in the win. Patricia DePalma got the win in goals for the Sagehens with four saves.

Pomona-Pitzer went into Thousand Oaks and dominated possession against the reigning National Champions and only allowed five shots for the Regals in the entire game while they fired off 12 of their own including eight on target.

The Sagehens kept their early offense theme going with two goals in the first 45 minutes to get out to an excellent start on the road. The Sagehens got on the board first to play from in front on the road against the Regals after they found the back of the net off of a corner.  Spencer Duetz took the corner into the box where Rojas Collins chested it to herself and kicked the ball through traffic to beat the keeper and give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead.

The Sagehens added another just before halftime as Adams struck a loose ball in the box and placed it into the upper 90 to double the Sagehens lead at 2-0 heading into halftime.

After building a 2-0 lead over Cal Lutheran in the first half, the Sagehens still pressed the attack with six shots in the second half.  Cal Lutheran attempted to get back into the game and caught a break in the 89th minute with a penalty that gave the Regals a chance to get back into the game.

Despite cutting the lead back down to one goal, the Sagehens were able to run out the final minute of the match and handed Cal Lutheran its first loss of the season.

Up Next: The Sagehens will return home to host La Verne on Saturday, October 19th at 11:30 a.m.
