CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team beat Occidental 3-0 in their SCIAC home opener on Tuesday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens are 6-6 overall and 1-1 in SCIAC play.
Kellan Hayes led the way with eleven kills and three blocks for the Sagehens while Jenny Jenks had 32 assists and Corrina Benson with 16 digs.
The Sagehens and the Tigers started the match going back and forth, looking like a fairly even match until the Sagehens went on a 5-0 run after being tied at 14. From there, the Sagehens kept their momentum alive going on a 6-3 run to win the first set 25-17.
The Sagehens dominated the second set reaching 20 points before the Tigers hit double digits. The team came alive with six different Sagehens on the board with kills allowing the team to win the set 25-14.
The third set was the most competitive set. There were 7 lead changes and the score was tied 15 times. Despite showing more signs of life, the Tigers could not keep up with Sagehens and Paige Mountanos sealed the victory with two clutch kills. It took three sets for the Sagehens to take the win in their SCIAC home opener.
