Sagehens Sweep Regular Season Series Against Redlands

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team completed the regular season sweep against SCIAC opponent Redlands with a 93-84 win over the Bulldogs on Wednesday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
 
Season Impact
: With the win, the Sagehens keep pace towards the top of the SCIAC at 15-4 overall and 8-2 in SCIAC play.
 
The Sagehens had a cast of stars in the win with five players in double figures, two 20+ point performances, and two double-doubles in the win. Ty Bergman led the way with 24 points and 10 rebounds while Joe Cookson finished one assist shy of a triple-double with 21 points, 13 rebounds, and nine assists.  Pete Boyle had 17 points, Jasper Hedin with 11, and Charlie Treene came off the bench with a career-high 13 points.
 
Pomona-Pitzer ended the night with an impressive 61% field goal percentage and 44.4% from the beyond the arc while outrebounding Redlands 34-27 and outscoring them in the paint 54-30.
 
The Sagehens kept pace with Redlands early as they had to deal with the patented Redlands full-court press for the entire game. Redlands forced the Sagehens into some tough possession early on and took a 10-6 lead, but the Sagehens reclaimed the lead at 15-13 and never gave the lead back to the Bulldogs.  The Sagehens hit a 7-0 run midway through the first half to push their lead over 10 for the first time in the game with a 29-18 lead with 8:33 left in the first half.  The Sagehens extended their lead late in the first half and after 48 first-half points, took a 48-35 lead into halftime.
 
The Bulldogs flipped a switch coming out of halftime and immediately got back into the game with their press and sparked a 13-3 run in three minutes to make it a one-possession game at 51-48.  After losing their first-half cushion, the Sagehens kept the Bulldogs at arm's length and started to regain control of the game as the second half went on. The Sagehens got back to a comfortable seven-point lead at 64-57 after a Hedin jumper, but the scrappy Bulldogs kept fighting to claw back into the game after closing the gap back down to four with six minutes to play.
 
The Sagehens continued to respond and extended the lead back over 10 with three minutes to play as the Sagehens went on to complete the regular season sweep of Redlands to solidify their top-three ranking in the SCIAC in what will be a tight regular season title chase down the stretch.
