Pomona-Pitzer Drops Road Sixth Street Rivalry, 64-58

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team fell to CMS 64-58 on Saturday night at Roberts Pavilion in the first meeting of the Sixth Street Rivalry this season.
 
 Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 3-15 overall and 0-9 in SCIAC play.
 
The Sagehens were led by Jadyn Lee who had her sixth 20+ point performance of the season with 22 in the loss. Abigail Homan was also in double figures with 18 for the Sagehens as well.
 
Similar shooting numbers from both teams with the Sagehens at 38% from the floor and 25% from three with CMS at 37.5% from the floor and also shooting 25% from three. CMS held the advantage down low with 38 points in the paint to Pomona-Pitzer 26 and outrebounded the Sagehens 44-31.
 
CMS started the game with a small lead at 7-3, but the Sagehens' offense got going late in the first quarter and ended with a Homan three to take a 12-11 lead heading into the second.
 
The Athenas came back and reclaimed the lead at 17-16 midway through the second quarter and held the lead until the Sagehens once again hit the final shot of the quarter and took a 26-25 lead into halftime.
 
A big third quarter for CMS was the difference in the game as the Athenas outscored the Sagehens 21-12 in the third quarter. CMS went on an early run out of halftime to take an eight-point lead at 37-29 and kept their lead throughout the rest of the quarter to hold a 46-38 lead heading into the fourth.
 
After facing their largest deficit of the game to start the fourth, the Sagehens started to chip away at the lead to get back within striking distance. Pomona-Pitzer got back to within four points at 55-51 after a jumper by Jadyn Lee and got down to within one point at 59-58 after a three by Lee with 25 seconds remaining.
 
The Sagehens had a chance to get a last chance to tie or take the lead, but a big offensive rebound by CMS allowed them to take a two-possession lead and close the game out against the Sagehens.
