Four Sagehens In Double Figures As Pomona-Pitzer Beats La Verne At Home

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team came away with an 86-63 win against local SCIAC opponent La Verne on Monday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
 
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improved to 12-3 overall and 5-1 in SCIAC play.
 
The Sagehens had four players in double figures in the win at home. Leading the way was Joe Cookson with 19 points. Ty Bergman had 14, Jasper Hedin with 13, and Pete Boyle with 10.  
 
Pomona-Pitzer had a nice night offensively hitting on 55.2% of their shots from the floor and 27.8% from beyond the arc.  The Sagehens outrebounded La Verne 41-25 and outscored them in the paint 50-22. Pomona-Pitzer also did a good job taking care of the basketball with just eight turnovers and seven steals on the other end.
 
La Verne stayed with the Sagehens early in the first half with both teams tied at 7-7. The Leopards kept it a close game trailing by two points with 14:13 left until halftime, but the Sagehens started to pull away with a 20-8 run led by seven points from Cookson to open the score to 33-18 with 7:35 to play in the first half.
 
La Verne stayed with the Sagehens for the remainder of the first half, but the Sagehens still held a commanding 44-28 lead heading into halftime.
 
The Sagehens opened the half with a 6-2 run to go up 20 points on the Leopards after a Hedin dunk made it 50-30 early in the second half.  With the game well in hand, the Sagehens continued to ride their big first-half performance and easily closed out the game to bounce back with a big home win to stay towards the top of the SCIAC standings.
