Sagehens Fall In Overtime To Regals At Home

CLAREMONT, CA. –  The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team fell in overtime for the second consecutive game as they fell to Cal Lutheran 81-78 on Saturday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
 
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 3-12 overall and 0-6 in SCIAC play.
 
The Sagehens had three players reach double digits in the scoring column. Emily Lee led the Sagehens with 19 points while Jadyn Lee tallied 16 and Abigail Homan with 15.
 
Cal Lutheran and Pomona-Pitzer shot pretty equally from the floor with the Regals at 42.9% and the Sagehens at 41.8%. The Sagehens had a great night from three hitting on 11-22 shots for 50% but turned the ball over 18 times in the game and was outscored 40-28 inside the paint which aided Cal Lutheran in the victory.
 
A good first quarter for the Sagehen offense matching Cal Lutheran with 21 points in the first 10 minutes. Cal Lutheran took a 6-0 lead to start the game that forced the Sagehens to battle back and close the gap to 10-8 with five minutes gone in the first. The Regals went up by as much as seven points at 15-8 with 4:30 to go, but the Sagehens ended the first quarter outscoring Cal Lutheran 13-9 and a buzzer-beater by Emily Lee tied the game at 21-21 heading into the second.
 
Lee opened the second with another three to give the Sagehens their first lead of the game at 24-21 and went up 29-24 before the Regals started to make a comeback in the second quarter.  Cal Lutheran went on an 18-10 run to end the first half and took a 42-36 lead heading into halftime.
 
The Regals kept their lead throughout the third quarter and held a 48-40 lead over the Sagehens with 6:50 left in the third. Cal Lutheran extended its lead to 10 at 51-41 but the Sagehens kept it within striking distance down nine points at 58-49 heading into the fourth.
 
Pomona-Pitzer immediately cut into the lead to start the fourth quarter with a 10-2 run capped off by an Emily Lee layup to make it 60-59 trailing by just one point with 6:02 remaining. Cal Lutheran held off the Sagehens, but Pomona-Pitzer tied the game late after a three-pointer by Emily Lee to even the score at 67-67 with 2:17 to play. The Regals went up by two with a made basket but Kellie Au and the Sagehens responded with a layup to send the game into overtime at 69-69.
 
Cal Lutheran jumped ahead to start the overtime period, but the Sagehens battled back and eventually took the lead after a Jadyn Lee layup made it 74-73 with 2:38 to go. The lead exchanged hands a few times down the stretch with the Sagehens holding a 78-75 lead with 1:32 to go. Cal Lutheran came back with some big buckets late in overtime and forced a crucial turnover late to hand the Sagehens their second-straight overtime loss.
