CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team came away with a 0-0 draw for their 2023 home opener against Vanguard on Wednesday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: With the draw, the Sagehens move to 0-2-1 on the year.
After dropping two games on the road, the Sagehens returned home for their home opener at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field where they picked up a hard-fought draw against Vanguard.
Ethan Bae had a stellar game inside the posts as he recorded his first shutout of the year with seven saves. The Sagehen defense did a good job limiting the Lions, but Bae's individual performance held the draw after he stopped multiple one-on-one chances throughout the 90 minutes.
The first half saw most of the action as Vanguard pressed early on and had a lot of attacking momentum in the early stages of the first half. Vanguard had six shots in the first half and one that rattled the crossbar, but the Sagehens didn't break to keep the 0-0 scoreline into halftime.
The Sagehens had their fair share of chances as well but weren't sharp enough in the final third to beat the Lion's keeper.
Aidan MacLennan had a big chance off of a corner, but it ricocheted off of the crossbar and out as the biggest chance of the day was missed by inches for Pomona-Pitzer.
Neither team could muster much offense in the second half as the Sagehen defense held off the Lions to take a draw during their home opener.
